If you know me, you know I am a matcha fein, and when I found out that I was leaving the campus for evangelizing, all I could think about was a matcha latte. I desperately needed the combination of matcha+vanilla+milk+ice. On the day we left to go downtown and evangelize, the only thought in my mind was a coffee shop and a matcha latte. Boy was I put in my place.
We were in the van on the way to downtown Gainesville, and I was feeling a little nervous but open and excited for what could happen. I opened my phone and looked up the closest coffee shop so then I could make a straight shot after we parked. But as soon as we stepped out of the van, I forgot about my matcha. We started walking and asking the Lord to lead us to people He wanted us to pray over. For the next hour I prayed over and shared my testimony to many people on the street. By the end of the hour I was on fire and I didn’t want to stop sharing the Gospel.
When we grouped together for our debrief, I noticed that a few other girls got coffee while evangelizing, but I didn’t think twice about it. The Lord reminded me “hey you just spent an hour spreading my love, the satisfaction of your flesh does not matter.” But then two of my dear squad mates, Savannah and Shelby, walked up with coffee. Bitterness and jealousy took root in my heart. I said “Adeline, be happy and joyful that they get to enjoy a latte and spread God’s love. Be filled with gratitude for them.” And I was grateful for them.
Later after our debrief, I walked up to Savannah and asked her how her coffee was. She looked down at her coffee, looked at me, and told me I could drink the rest of it. I immediately told her what I had been struggling with for the past week. We laughed together and I got to enjoy the rest of her iced coffee.
What Christ has to offer satisfies not only your spirit, but your entire being. Sharing His love to those who needed it filled me wayyy more than a matcha latte ever could. I’m so very thankful that Jesus opened my eyes to that fact.
As I am writing this I’m currently sitting in a coffee shop…drinking a matcha latte.
